LOEWY & PUISEUX

Photographie Lunaire: Boussingault - Vlacq - Maurolycus 17 Février 1899, 6h 0 Heliogravure (with tissue overlay) 29 ½ x 22 inches (sheet size)

Loewy and Puiseux were two French astronomers at the Obsevatoire de Paris who made telescopic views of the moon during the years 1894–1904. This image was printed with great sensitivity. It is an unusually large and rare photogravure with information regarding the exact date and hour of the exposure printed beneath the image. The New York based client acquired a pair of these pictures through me from Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco, CA.

Provenance the Robert Olden Collection, New York, NY. Acquired from Jackson Fine Art , Atlanta, GA.

This was a rare and exceptional find, the owner had kept it in cold storage since the printing. Acquired with a second dye transfer and black and white vintage print by my client, a private collector in New York.
